Closing Up Shop

It is with great regret that we announce our closing. For three years we have offered Belleville a vibe it was missing, not to mention great music, art and the best coffee in town. Alas, the demand for what we offered was not strong enough to sustain us. We thank you for your support over the years. Turpentine Returns . . . x2

Local hit Turpentine returns to Oregon Trail on Saturday, January 29th from 1pm to 3pm. The house was packed last time because their music is absolutely incredible. If you missed them last year, you simply must plan to attend this time. They’ll be back again in February too, on Saturday the 26th, also from 1pm to 3pm. The event in free, so spread the word and bring a friend–you won’t want to miss this one.

New Artwork by Adam Fisher

Come see our newest artwork by Adam Fisher. Adam currently lives in Belleville, IL, working as a freelance photographer, painter, and graphic artist. His style of painting is a mix of impressionism and abstract using real objects and scenes, and often painting photographs he’s taken. The paintings on display are oil on canvas using a palette knife.

Adam collects and restores old film cameras and uses them to create some of his fine art photography. Many of the pictures he takes are shot with a plastic Diana Camera, a few Polaroid cameras, and some 35mm cameras.

Adam has a passion for classic film photography and develops his own black and white shots. The photos on display were taken in Brzail, Ghana, and around the U.S.

Play (and learn) Chess

Come join chess players from around the area to play (or learn to play) chess at Oregon Trail Roasting Co every Sunday from noon until 3pm. You can also play chess at Castletown Geoghegan Restaurant & Pub at 104 West Main Street, Belleville on Thursdays starting at 7pm, or at the Programs & Services for Older Persons (PSOP), 201 North Church Street Monday’s from 10am to 11:30am (but call first at 234-4100), or at the Abbey in the Arcades Plaza, 6500 West Main Street, Belleville on Saturday mornings starting around 10am.

Contest Winner Announced

Richard Krueger won our 31 August 2010 email list contest. We started the contest at the Scott Air Force Base Year of the Family Picnic back in June and received hundreds of entries. As promised, we held a random drawing to determine the winner of the Keurig brand Single Cup coffee brewer with K-Cup (which allows you to use our fresh roasted coffee instead of the Keurig pre-packaged coffee brands). Richard Krueger’s entry was selected from over six hundred. Here’s a photo of Richard accepting the prize in the coffee shop.
